THE DAILY FIX (OCEAN)

(Q) How long have you been taking photos of graffiti & what interests you to do so?

(A) I actually started taking photos in 2003 with a film camera and of graffiti both digital/film around 2007. What mainly interests me is the different styles from pieces to the smallest things like tags and the dedication and the risks that go into each piece/bomb/tag etc.

(Q) Do you own photo albums of actual prints or do you prefer digital?

(A) I own a few photo albums of some old pictures of mine and from some other writers who gave me copies. I actually prefer digital because its easier to file from year to year.

(Q) How many photos are in your personal collection?

(A) Thousands. Most aren’t the best of quality, I just love getting as much as I can.

(Q) Do you feel photography plays a major role in documenting graffiti culture?

(A) The reason I believe photography plays a big role in graffiti culture is as a result that a lot of the old school/new school graffiti in my area and in other areas are being removed and a lot of these spots have been running for years. If their wasn’t anyone to take pictures of these spots no one would of known it was there and no one would of actually appreciated the piece besides the writer himself.

(Q) Do you have any crazy stories or memorable moments while taking photos?

(A) I do filming and photo taking at day and night, so their have been times when we’ve gotten chased out of yards, arrested, hit up by gangs and the list goes on. One of the most memorable ones was actually when I was filming one of my friends and taking photos of him doing this spot in the valley. I was keeping a look out and my other friend was riding his bike at the park keeping an eye out. I look back down the street and I see a red and blue light flashing coming our way I tell my friend run. We start running like hell into the park as were looking back it’s a bike with one of those blinkers on it.
