THE DAILY FIX (SKIRE TNS)
(Q) How long have you been taking photos of graffiti & what interests you to do so?
(A) I started painting in 1985, taking photos was part of the process, my dad was a photographer so I knew how to use a SLR when I was about 5.. I also had access to good quality kit at a time when most people had 110′s or Disc cameras.. I could also scam printing though my dads work account and film was easy to steal..

(Q) Do you own photo albums of actual prints or do you prefer digital??
(A) Yeah I do have photo albums and boxes of prints, I have happy memories of chilling in the garden at friends house with a few beers a bunch of writers and a few thousand pics, prints where nice for that reason, way better than crowding round a computer screen.. But that said I dont keep any prints at my house, all are stashed away.. Times have changed this is the digital age and with that its so much easier to back stuff up..

(Q) How many photos are in your personal collection??
(A) Thats a tough question more than I would care to count.. I have hundreds of pics from photo trades, from those days before the internet when people used to post stuff to each other.. If I was to count digital pics and prints that I took myself It would be well in to hundreds of thousands..

(Q) Do you feel photography plays a major role in documenting graffiti culture??
(A) Of course it does, most graff doesn’t last long so a photo is all that remains..

(Q) Do you have any crazy stories or memorable moments while taking photos??
(A) Most of my crazy stories relate to painting rather than photography.. I got busted in 1989 and got the standard British Transport Police house raid and they took thousands of photos and shit loads of paint (they had to borrow a van from the local police to take all the evidence) As they where about to take me back to the cells one of the cops asked me is there anything else in the house?? He was standing on the loose floorboard that was hiding all my negs.. “No mate, nothing else….”
