The Daily Fix (Day Dreamer)

(Q) How long have you been taking photos of graffiti & what interests you to do so??

(A) I’ve been taking flicks of graffiti and street art since January 2008.. I like the idea of recording an art form that is by its very nature transient and fleeting.. I am interested in how urban space evolves, how layers of paint and paper, text and images get built up and torn down and built up again.. I also really enjoy exploring the abandoned, forgotten spaces that I find while I’m out on photowalks.. I can usually find a couple good spots to hit up and go back later with paint or posters..

(Q) Do you own photo albums of actual prints or do you prefer digital??

(A) I prefer digital, and shoot mostly with a Canon G10.. But lately I have been shooting some film rolls with my Holga.. I love my Holga..

(Q) How many photos are in your personal collection??

(A) I’m not sure.. My laptop got stolen about two years ago and I lost a lot of stuff that hadnt been backed up.. If I had to guess, between what’s on Flickr and what’s on my hard drives, I’d say about 5 to 6,000 photos.. Not all of which are great photos, mind you.. I need to do a major cleanup of my hard drives soon and get rid of some of the junk that’s been accumulating..

(Q) Do you feel photography plays a major role in documenting graffiti culture??

(A) Yes.. I feel that photography provides a record of existence, and also provides a way for that piece to be seen by a much larger number of viewers via the internet.. Back in the day if you wanted people from other cities to see your work, the only way to do that was to paint freights.. Now with digital photography and the internet, the potential audience for someone’s work has expanded exponentially..

(Q) Do you have any crazy stories or memorable moments while taking photos??

(A) Hmmmm…. wandering through a massive abandoned office complex in Seattle with Brynk Cynk.. Sneaking past security in an even bigger derelict apartment building in Amsterdam with FAKE, Finbarr DAC, Nine-o, FarkFK and IvesOne.. My favorite times are when the city is quiet, walking down alleys super early in the morning when it’s just getting light out.. Beautiful!!
